Remembrance Day

Yesterday, I met with Mr Deane the Principal of Bury College. We discussed the progress being made on the review presently underway into post-16 education in Greater Manchester. One fact which came out of our meeting which I wonder if many people know is how big Bury College now is. They provide education for around four and a half thousand students many of whom travel to the college from outside Bury. We also discussed the wide range of Apprenticeship course the College are involved with.

I then attended the Remembrance Day service held outside the United Reformed Church at Greenmount and laid a wreath at the War Memorial. The service was very well attended. We must never forget the sacrifice so many made that we may enjoy our democratic freedoms today.

Later I visited the Hope and Horizon Units based at Fairfield Hospital. The young people who are resident in the units have to be educated there and I was invited to go along and speak to the pupils about how I became a Member of Parliament and the rôle of a M.P.

  1. Just wanted to say Thank You. It’s not been on any of your digests but I caught a snippet of your contribution in the debate in the house of commons on Mr Camerons statement about his non re-negotiations with the EU. Thank You for saying what I think.
