Bury Rugby Club

Bury Rugby Club have been awarded a grant £49,134 from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund. They are planning to use the fundsprovide additional floodlighting to their pitches, improve the pitch surrounds add more showers in the changing rooms and improve the clubhouse facilities..

Bury Rugby Club was founded back in 1875 and now has a very active junior section with over 250 players enabling teams to be fielded from under 7’s right up to under 19’s.

As someone involved in amateur sport I know how clubs like Bury Rugby Club are reliant on subscriptions, fundraising and donations so grants like this provide a welcome boost and I trust the works will be soon completed and the Club continues to thrive.

In/Out Referendum

It has been a historic day. The Prime Minister’s announcement that if the Conservatives win the next General Election there will be an In/Out Referendum in 2017 has settled one of the biggest questions in politics. I am glad to have played a small part in bringing the change of policy about. Back on 24th October 2011 it was my motion that called for such an In/Out Referendum that despite being opposed by all three main Parties front benches attracted 111 votes.

I wish the Prime Minister well in negotiating an EU lite package to put to the British people. The main thing is the British people are going to have their say after over 4 decades.

More importantly, unemployment is down again with more people in work in December than in November. No doubt there may be ups and downs on the road to recovery but the fact remains that even though it is a difficult path the Government are making the right calls on the big decisions. Of course Labour are opposing these decisions that is their job. The same few Labour Councillors and supporters who post on my blog are doing their job but the vast majority of the public know in their heart of hearts that even though they might not like the medicine in the long run it is working. There really is no alternative but to cut Government spending so the Country is living within its means. Labour’s answer is always to spend more but no one will forget that it was the ‘spend today’ policies of Labour that got the Country into this mess.

Peel Lions Christmas collection

Lions Coll Dec 2012

Many thanks to the Peel Lions for sending me a pic of when I joined them to help them with their Christmas Collection outside Ramsbottom’s Tesco.

Peel Lions Club is a member of Lions International whose mission statement is “to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs.”  Their area of operation is Ramsbottom and Tottington and during the last 12 months they have supported the appeal to repair the steeple of St. Paul’s Church, the Christmas lunch organised by “Churches Together in Ramsbottom”, Young Carers, the local Music Festival, the 7th Ramsbottom Scout Group, the “Friends of Ramsbottom Civic Hall” and the Tottington Community Defibrillator Appeal. I was delighted to be able to help them in their fundraising and thank them for the very valuable work they do.

Happy New Year

As 2013 dawns I wish all visitors to my humble blog a happy healthy and peaceful 2013. Hopefully it will also be a prosperous one too despite the difficult national economic circumstances as the Government continues to ensure our Country can start to live within its means again.
