Foreign National Offenders

The main business in the Commons today is the Second Reading of the Foreign National Offenders (Exclusion from the UK) Bill. This Bill seeks to require the Home Secretary to bring forward regulations which would exclude from the UK any person who is not a British citizen and who is convicted in any UK court of law of an offence for which a term of imprisonment may be imposed. This is a major problem when one considers that about 1 in 8 of the inmates of our prison estate are foreign nationals.
