Petitions

One of the radical new ideas which the Conservatives proposed at the General Election and which is still in the Coalition Government Agreement is to allow for petitions which attract the support of over 100,000 people to be eligible to be debated in the House of Commons. The Agreement goes on to say that the petition with most signatories would result in a Bill being brought before Parliament.I asked the Leader of the House about these plans in the House of Commons today.

I think whilst these ideas may invigorate public involvement in politics and the political process although I can see a number of practical problems in the implementation of the idea. Any suggestions or ideas from readers would be welcome.
