The current M.P. for Bury North has announced this morning that he will not be standing again for Labour at the next General Election.
I believe that most people in the Constituency will think that this is the correct decision. This news is further proof, if any were needed, that the Labour Government is in complete disarray. Labour’s desperate activities are tantamount to shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic.
The people of Bury North want real change, not just a change of Labour Candidate. That change can only be brought about by a General Election and the sooner Gordon Brown stops dithering and finds the bottle to call one the better.
David,
Whilst I agree that David Chaytor’s decision to stand down at the next election is the right one, indeed, I have discussed the matter at length with David himself.I think it is wrong for you to try to lay the entire blame on the Labour Government. There are several high profile Tory MP’s standing down at the next election too, and possibly a few from all parties that ought to be subject to much closer scrutiny. This issue is one the electorate is rightly angry about and one that the Prime Minister has said he is determined to tackle, and will tackle, as opposed to the soundbites and platitudes from the Leader of the Opposition.
David Cameron has led he way in dealing with the expenses problem. Complete transparency, a ban on “flipping” of second homes without the approval of the Chief Whip and a ban on using allowances for food , furniture and households goods. Further a Conservative Government will put an end to taxpayers money being used for providing M.P’s with leaflets through the £10,000 Communications Allowance. Not just words but real actions in respect of the things we can do whilst in Opposition and a clear plan for further action when in Government.
