Thirty years ago…

Thirty years ago today on 4th May 1979 Mrs. Margaret Thatcher took over as our first (and so far only ) female Prime Minister. It is I think a mark of the strength and stability of our democracy that since then power has only changed once in 1997 when Tony Blair and Labour took over. I was studying my ‘A’ levels at the time of the 1979 election and including a politics ‘A’ level and I still have the project we did at the time. I should add that other than studying politics at school at that time I was not a member of any political party and I had never undertaken any political activity.
