Many thanks to all those who braved a bleak January evening to fill the Elizabethan Suite at The Town Hall to hear more about the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework – basically the plan for future land use in Greater Manchester including the whole of Bury . Understandably there was a lot of concern about the present proposals. It is the nature of such meetings that they attended by those who are both very worried and who have questions they want answering. It seems to me that the basic problem is the length of time the plan is to cover a right up to 2035! The events of the past year demonstrate if proof were needed of the enormous difficulty of crystal ball gazing. By definition of course any plan for the future involves having to make certain assumptions on which to base the plan but I am not convinced it makes sense to have a plan covering such a long period. When Parliament resumes I will be continuing to pursue this whole issue. The whole process is going to takes years not weeks or months so I am going to investigate and make sure of the facts.
