I read today that a Government adviser reckons that the age old tradition of people buying a round of drinks is contributing to binge drinking. What a load of nonsense. Another example of ‘nanny state thinking’. I believe people are quite capable of deciding to either stop drinking or switch to soft drinks if they have had enough. I hope the adviser in question is not being paid for his advice!

And a further concern is that the VAT increase will be another nail in the coffin that was the local pub. More than enough dead already in Bury.
