A breach of trust

At the last General Election the Labour Party manifesto said, in reference to the new Constitutional Treaty which governs our relationship with the European Union.
“We will put it to the British people in a referendum..”
Pretty clear you might think. Last night the Labour Government forced through the House of Commons the new Treaty which has taken the place of the failed Constitutional Treaty without agreeing to ask the public what they think. Labour argue it is a different treaty so their manifesto commitment does not apply. It is slightly different everyone can agree on that but it most respects the Treaty is the same. My view is that the only reason Labour are running scared of holding a referendum is that they know they would lose.
