It is difficult to believe in the 21st century that some people are being kept without any freedom at all. They are to all intents and purposes slaves. It may not be the slavery abolished by William Wilberforce but it is abhorrent all the same.

Only last year Parliament passed the Modern Slavery Act giving the police and courts the powers they need to clamp down on this evil trade. It is estimated there are some 10,000 people in the UK being denied their freedom. Working for nothing. Some engaged in prostitution. Some engaged in domestic service.

It is one area which does unite Parliament and our new Prime Minister has made it clear from the outset she is determined to stamp out this modern-day blight on our society.
