Please call in to sign the petition at Ramsbottom Post OfficeI have been busy over the last few days campaigning to keep a post office in Ramsbottom. Sadly the staff who work in the post office in the Co-op have been given three months notice of redundancy. The problem has arisen due to the Co-op deciding to sell their store in Ramsbottom to Morrisons. It appears that nowhere in England does Morrisons have a post office in one of their supermarkets. Our Conservative Councillors in Ramsbottom have been deluged with worried residents and we have launched a petition for people to sign urging the Government to maintain a post office in Ramsbottom. The petition is available for residents to sign at Ramsbottom Post Office and several shops in Ramsbottom town centre.
1. Are the Post Office just using this as an excuse to close the Ramsbottom branch? I ask this because there are many empty commercial properties in Ramsbottom that could be used as an alternative to the in-store option?
2. Is it possible that the council could insist any planning application for a new super markets (eg: the proposed new Aldi) includes provision for a Post Office?
The Rammy post office is not a tiny rural branch, it is an important part of the town and is heavily used. Loss of the Post Office would be just another reason for new businesses not to locate in our town as they would have to drive elsewhere when ever they needed it’s services.
Yours Sincerely

Thank for your comment Ian.
1. I hope not. You are quite right about the number of vacant properties and we have pointed this out to the Post Office.
2. I am not sure about this. I doubt it. I have nevr come across such a condition being imposed.

Hi
I ask two questions…

2. Is it possible that the council could insist any planning application for a new super markets (eg: the proposed new Aldi) includes provision for a Post Office?
