Bury Local Election Results

Several people have contacted me to ask ” How did we do in the local elections?” I thought it would be useful therefore if I just set out what happened. The Conservatives gained Radcliffe North from Labour and the Liberal Democrats gained two seats off Labour in St. Marys and Sedgley. Although three of the nine Wards in Bury South changed hands none of the eight Wards in Bury North changed hands. In terms of the overall vote across Bury the Conservatives had 41.4%, Labour had 33.9% the Liberal Democrats 18.4% ( the rest is BNP and Independent ).

  1. In terms of the national picture, the Tories got just 0.4 per cent more than Michael Howard in the last local elections. Then look what happened to him at the national elections: he got battered at the ballot box. The Tories did reasonably well last week but I don’t see it as a sign of things to come at the next national election. Far from it
