Susan and I have had a relaxing Bank Holiday. This morning we joined a group from St Anne’s on a walk which whilst intended to be around the parish boundaries was actually an extremely enjoyable walk around the Parish and up to Affetside. This is an historic trek known as ‘beating the bounds’ We were very ably led by Gordon Foote who regularly gave us terrificly informative insights on local history.
I have watched some of the re-run on BBC Parliament of their coverage of the 1997 General Election. It was interesting to see how high hopes were for the New Blair Government. 1997 was my first General Election as a Candidate and I have to say I can sense the same feelings of anger against the Government building up in the same way that they did against the Conservative Government in the mid 1990’s.
